Riviera
Riviera is an Italian term originally from the Middle Ages for the coast of Liguria. The term is now more generally applied to any coastal area popular with tourists, particularly in warm areas. The two divisions of the original Riviera, both of which border the Ligurian Sea, are:
- French Riviera, that part of the coast of France between the Hyeres and Menton, in the eastern part of the Alpes Maritimes département.
- Italian Riviera, that part of the coast of Italy between La Spezia and the frontier with France, at Ventimiglia.
